Russia: The Dorothy Dunnett Guide will be published later this spring. The guide explores the country as experienced by Nicholas in Caprice and Rondo and Lymond in The Ringed Castle, and will enable Dunnett readers to glimpse Russia’s golden-domed capital, its towns and its countryside through the eyes of our heroes. As an introduction to the new guide, this issue of Whispering Gallery examines the often hazardous journeys undertaken by Nicholas de Fleury, Francis Crawford and their contemporaries to Moscow.
Why we should read the Johnson Johnson books is the subject of the Talking Point. This is preceded by a transcription of a talk Dunnett gave on writing crime novels, and an analysis of the use our author makes of Johnson Johnson’s bifocals to organise her storytelling and her character relationships. We have a second article about Marthe, which follows up on the illuminating piece published in December, we visit the Boston Archive again, and the 2019 IDDD celebrations are pictured in a colourful photospread..
