“They entered Loch Bracadale with the sunrise, rose-coloured oars laying darkling folds on the rose-tinted pool of the fjord.” King Hereafter

Lesley Burnie

Hello to everyone. I’ve been on the Board of the Dorothy Dunnett Society since 2015 and I’ve been Treasurer since 2017 when Barbara Milner stepped back from the role, after giving very generously of her time to train me up as her replacement. I worked for Fife Council as an accountant, and did so for more years than I care to mention, though I am now retired. I also worked in the manufacturing industry for several years. My qualifications are eclectic- an LLB, ACMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) and an Open University degree in German and English Literature. Sadly, Dorothy Dunnett has not yet made it onto the reading list for the English literature course.

My introduction to Dorothy Dunnett’s novels was through my mother. I read all the Johnson Johnson books as a teenager and some of the Lymond books. I have recently re-started on the historical novels and am thoroughly enjoying the Zoom reading group which started in 2026.

My interests are reading (mainly genres such as historical, science fiction/fantasy & detective stories); going to the theatre, museums and art galleries; foreign travel; genealogy, and socialising with friends. Now that I’m retired, I work for two other charities and have the time to pursue lifelong learning courses, ranging from Portuguese to history to art appreciation to literature.
