Legendary American editor Robert Gottlieb sought out and published The House of Niccolò series in the States, thereby adding Dorothy Dunnett to the impressive list of authors who came under his care. This issue carries an extract from Robert Gottlieb’s memoir in which he talks fondly of his memories of Dunnett.
The short story competition launched earlier this year by the Historical Writers’ Association in collaboration with the Dorothy Dunnett Society proved a great success, with nearly 170 entries submitted. We are delighted to publish the winning story.
We examine the history of Calais, and the battle that reclaimed Calais and Guînes for the French as depicted in Checkmate. Two articles focus on the women in The Lymond Chronicles. We have an overview of the IDDD celebrations from around the world, and a summary of an event at the turn of the year in Edinburgh that made reference to Dunnett.
