Dorothy Dunnett History Prize 2012 Winner

Posted on

The Society’s Trustees were delighted with the response to the Dorothy Dunnett History Prize 2012  and enjoyed reviewing the essays. We are delighted to announce that the winning entry in a very strong field was Ben Lacey of Sheffield University “Relic Theft and the Church of Durham in Eleventh-Century Society”. Two other essays were highly commended: Lauren Working of Durham University “Fashioning the Realm: Literature and Identity in Scotland, 1508-1555” and Adrian Cornell du Houx of Lancaster University “A Courtly Mystery: the Royal Touch in the Eleventh Century”.

It is hoped that all three will be able to attend the Dunnett Weekend in Edinburgh in April. Their essays will be printed in Whispering Gallery in 2013, beginning with the winning entry in the June issue, and also published on the website.

The Trustees thank the University of Edinburgh and in particular, Steve Boardman and Anne Brockington for the administration of the prize.
